Ok, like many of you (I think), I use the Windows RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) Client to connect to and manage my server.

Well, on my fun 56K, sometimes the connection get's dropped. However, that user stays on and open.

I believe this would be a major security risk. And all the open programs stay open at that time.

If I re-connect to the server, I have to log on again. Sometimes I get a prompt asking me what session to reconnect to, but I haven't gotten this in quite a while.

Can anyone help in getting to that other session and finishing my work?

I would just reboot the server, the problem is, there's something I need finish that's been open and waiting since I got disconnected.

Help?

When this happens and it asks you to choose which seesion to login
to, pick the earlier session. This will be the session that are looking for
and then open up the 'Terminal Server' manager and reset the disconnected session.

I have used TS for a few years now and I have never had this
happen as many times as it does with the server I have from SB.

I guess I worded it funny.
What I mean is. I USED to get that box...but I'm not getting it anymore, and it's bothering me, my server has been idle all day, and I CAN'T reboot it.

Is there anyway to force it to connect to an open session?

On your RDC on your PC, is the "Save my password" box checked? If so, you're automatically logging in everytime you connect. There is no security risk unless you don't trust someone where you have your remote PC located. If you want to get that box, simply uncheck the "Save my password" box and you'll have to login everytime.

Although the session stays open on your server, at the server itself, you will see a login screen. No one else can login to your server unless they type the user and pass.

If you have two TS sessions going and you can't login to either
of them, you will need to reboot the server and reset the sessions.

I have exactly the same problem...

Heres how I solved it.

Go to Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Terminal Services Configuration (TSC)

Right mouse click on RDP-TCP, choose Properties

If you haven't been into TSC already you should also do :
General Tab> Encryption Level: High.

Under Sessions Tab:

Check Override User Settings, then choose:

End a Disconnected Session : 3 hours
Active Session Limit: 1 Day
Idle Session Limit: 30 minutes

(modify times to suit of course)

Check the second Override User Settings, and choose Disconnect From Session.

If you get disconnected therefore Windows will end the disconnected session after the timeout period you specify. :)

I'll do that...however. What do I do about the current open session?
Again, I cannot reboot the server, I don't want to screw up the installation.

I know there's a way to get back to it...it's just not working well.
