View Full Version : Debian 2.4.22 "Binary" image?

Good day. I was hoping some of you more experienced Debian pros could help me figure this out.

I see that there is a Debian stable Kernel Image for 2.4.22. However, it is labeled as a "binary" image. Is there some difference between this and the other stable images? Is this one not to be used except for special circumstances?

Thanks in advance!

Greg

The only official Debian kernel image package for 2.4.22 is in testing, not stable. If you are referring to the kernel-image-2.4.22_1.0SB package, this is something that ServerBeach used in the past for the Debian installations.

Hmmm

Curious. Perhaps the current SB package is showing up when I search the apt-cache?

code:~$ apt-cache search kernel-image
kernel-image-2.2.20 - Linux kernel binary image for version 2.2.20.
...
kernel-image-2.4.18-k6 - Linux kernel image for version 2.4.18 on AMD K6/K6-II/K6-III
kernel-image-2.4.18-k7 - Linux kernel image for version 2.4.18 on AMD K7
...
kernel-image-2.4.22 - Linux kernel binary image for version 2.4.22.

Notice the last line?

In any case, it seems you already answered my question in that you don't know of an official, stable release outside of 2.4.18-1. Thanks!

Yep. Any custom packages that are installed are automatically added to the cache. :)

Thanks for the courtesy note. Many people wouldn't have taken the time, and I appreciate that.
