Hi there all hosters,

I got 2 questions for you, so here we go with the first one:

When i login to my WHM at my server i get 2 popups that says the following:

------------
First popup:
------------

Hostname A Entry Missing!

The server was unable to lookup an an A entry for its hostname (server1.attack.se). This is generally because the entry was never added. However this could also be the result of your nameserver(s) being down. If you would like to attempt to automaticlly add the entry.

Then i click the "Click Here" button and get this:

Adding an A entry for your hostname
Found your hostname to be: server1.attack.se
Found your short hostname to be: server1
Found your domain name to be: attack.se
Found your main ip to be: 66.135.34.95
If this looks correct, add the entry.

Then i click the "Add the entry" button and get this:

IP=66.135.34.95 ndc: connect failed: connection refused Add Complete

Please help me fix this.

-------------
Second popup:
-------------

Resolver Setup
This wizard will guide you though setting up your resolver configuration file (/etc/resolv.conf). You currently have one or more of cPanel.net's dns resolvers in your /etc/resolv.conf. You will need to set these to your datacenter's local resolvers as these servers are only intended for use during a cPanel install. If you continue to use them connections to your server be exceedingly slow because of the time it takes to complete a dns lookup.

Then i click the "Continue" button and get this:

Resolver Setup
Enter the ip address of at least two nameservers that you will use for dns resolution. If this server is acting as a primary nameserver, and you have enabled the nameserver under inital nameserver setup, you must enter 127.0.0.1 in the Primary Resolver box. If this server is acting as a slave server, you should enter the ip address of the master dns server in the Primary Resolver box. Expert users with a custom dns configuration may enter a diffrent value. If you do not know the ip address of your provider's local resolvers you should contact them. It is very important that these nameservers are correct, or you server will not function properly. If you do not know what to put in the boxes below and cannot contact your provider, please close this window and go though this setup at a later time; Your server should still function normally, however connections made to the server may be slower then normal.

I then add the following:

Primary Resolver - ns1.geodns.net
Secondary Resolver - ns2.geodns.net
Teritary Resolver - (Here i did NOT enter anything)

Then i click the "Continue" button and get this:

Resolver Setup
Your resolvers have been setup!

Listed in order they are: You did not specify any resolvers. Please go back and try again.

Please help me fix this.

I keep seeing WHM posted all over the boards. What on earth does that mean? It's driving me crazy, lol.

This is the result of you not using any nameservers or not creating the A record "server1" for the domain attack.se in the DNS tool.

IP=66.135.34.95 ndc: connect failed: connection refused Add Complete

This is a bug in the default install of cpanel where you would simply run "/scripts/ndc" to fix :)

I then add the following:
Primary Resolver - ns1.geodns.net
Secondary Resolver - ns2.geodns.net
Teritary Resolver - (Here i did NOT enter anything)

Those are authoritative nameservers meaning that they are only used to store DNS zone files and also allow you to manage them via the DNS tool. What you would add to /etc/resolv.conf instead would be our caching nameservers, which resolve domains to IP's Ex: google.com -> 216.239.53.100

Our caching nameservers:
66.139.72.6
66.139.72.22

I hope this helps :)

WebHostManager, the piece of software that comes with CPanel to add/delete/administrate/etc. servers.

How exactly do I create the A record "server1" for the domain attack.se in the DNS tool?

Please explain in real newbiestyle how this is done .. :)

Ok, so after hours of trying this I found out that your command "/scripts/ndc" is WRONG it should be "/scripts/fixndc" !!

This is greate support from SB .. NOT .. :mad:

So now i only have to spend some hours to try and find out how to create the A record "server1" for the domain attack.se in the DNS tool .. when I could get an EASY for you guys answer in 5 minutes instead .. hmm .. thanks for the GREATE support you give us newbies at SB .. :rolleyes:

I think it is silly for you to expect to have your hand held; I do not think it is unacceptable for SB to expect you to have a modicum of experience with unix before buying a dedicated unix box. The /scripts directory isn't even a part of Linux itself, it is a part of cPanel, which you should actually be opening tickets with cPanel if you have problems with. SB is only cheap because they charge per incident for problems that were not caused by them.

Also, flaming the folks that post here is an excellent way to ensure prompt and courteous responses next time. O.o

That may be. Of course, isn't even more silly (sillier?) of a person to read what SB says and then say "Oh, they probably don't mean that."

These tickets can be used for issues such as:

* Application configuration
* Application installation/upgrades
* Web Server
* Mail Server
* FTP
* Security management (patches)
* User Management

These are self-managed servers. However, SB advertises support for $15. Now, I would think that a CP fits one or more of these descriptions. Thus, if he pays for a ticket (or uses one of his free ones), he has a right to expect that they will help him with it. They did help him with it, however, it just wasn't accurate. That's his beef.

If the reason why it wasn't accurate is because SB really doesn't support that, then they shouldn't advertise as so. I think they do intend to support it, this may be the case of a simple messed up support answer. It happens to the best of us, including myself!

I do NOT think so, because I pay for support even if I use my 3 tickets that i got when i moved in to SB.

And if I pay, I want answers that are right from the begining when it cost me money.

If i got that answer from some of you helpful forummembers then I can accept that it now and then could be a wrong answer because everybody canīt be proīs in this .. but I realy think that answers made by SB would be something that we customers can trust.

Even if we are new in this field of hosting.

Well, one thing I can say is, these forums have been most helpful to me. I've learned tons, and actually a lot of things from the SB staff postings, so I would encourage you to ask for help here. That might save you a little money and sometimes get your better support :)

Another good place to go for help (if you have Plesk) is www.plesk.com. If you have a license, they will help you out. If not, just head to their forums. They are pretty good.
