Hello,
At around 6:30AM EST I rebooted one of our SB servers, after a routine upgrade (by hand) of the Linux kernel. The box has not come back online.. I immedently issued a support ticket, but the issue has not been resolved, no emails, nothing. The ticket still shows as: Owner: Nobody, and has not been updated since I posted it.
I'm starting to get very worried here.. downtime is costing me money.
Can someone please investigate my support ticket?.
If it helps at all, I suspect the problem is with lilo, so you probably just need to switch to the old (2.4.23) kernel to bring the box back online.. easier said than done heheh ;)
My support ticket is:
Ticket # 78085
Status new
Subject #8046-1 kernel 2.4.25 boot failiure
Current Owner Nobody

Thanks in advance :)
I'm sure you've noticed if you've read around the forums here that these are user to user forums. Support does not monitor these forums and your issues will not get resolved any faster by posting here.
I hope your issue is resolved soon.

Hello,
As you may or my not know (I posted in the Debian forum earlier) my server is offline due to a routine kernel upgrade failiure.. which to be fair is problably my own fault. But the box has been offline since 19/02/04 6:30am.
The ticket got an owner at 19/02/04 at 10:30pm, It's now 20/02/04 6:30am EST (I think) and there's been no communication or ETA on when the problem will be resolved.
I do realise that it's my fault the server is down, but for the issue not to be resolved within 24hours (a job that would take an hour, maybe 2 being in a DC) it's sort of worrying. I expected at the very least some form of communication about an expected ETA, or further clarifcation on the problem.
What's the best way of seeking either of these?.
Thanks,
Allan.

Any word? When you first posted the message it had only been a half an hour from when the ticket was put in. The ticket also had a last updated timestamp of

Well the box is still down as I post this, no word from serverbeach, I've contacted them a number of times but all they have done is issued new tickets which have yet to be looked at.
Now my support ticket has gone from having an owner.. to having no owner.
Short of flying to america and fixing the damn thing myself I'm not sure what I can do.
This has had a big impact on my business. Something which we will have to work hard at to get the trust and respect back of alot of our customers.
We do have backup servers, but they don't have enough bandwidth as our primary serverbeach server, and are struggling to cope.
It looks like I'm going to have to order another server from *** or somewhere, possibly ************, and just accept that loss. and if the box ever comes back online just backup the remaining data. It pains me to have todo this because when the box is online serverbeach is nothing short of fantastic, even when there is issues they are usually resolved very promptly, unlike this, but I can't let my personal liking of serverbeach stand in the way of my customer's downtime heh.

... it had to happen some day...
I must have done something :bang:
Because I have quiet some years of Linux XP (since 1993)... but still...
I managed to :flush:
Just apt-getted the 2.4.24 kernel image and even put the 2.4.18 as fallback,....
but even RapidReboot doesn't seem to work...
Maybe it's waiting for the SSL pwd to be entered or something else stupid...
Anyways; hope you guys at ServerBeach aren't too buzy as lots of people seem to upgrade their kernels as a result of the new-discovered kernel security holes.
BTW, I can't say any negative about you guys (yet ;)
