I have a windows 2003 server at home and I can get it to work just fine but not at server beach
I am running an encoder from 2 home systems on two different IP :8080 I have tried encoder pull ,encoder push and multicast. When I tried to play my IP address in just the media player on server beach server it does not work, but then I can play it local and I can send the address out to my friend on the net and they can play it fine but then I bottle neck out on DSL.
I have taken down the internet security down allow active x controllers but no luck does server beach have a firewall or am I just not doing something right HELP
I think someone mentioned that port 8080 and other common proxy ports are filtered due to proxy abuse. You may want to try a different port.

I have tried different ports no luck but then again it is like shooting crapes to find a open port for media player I think 8080 is the only one I can use

Make sure all connection protocols are enabled. That would be:
rstp
mms
http
at the server. If you have real server running, make sure your mms port has started properly. Also, if you've enabled WMS web administration, it uses 8080 and starts up first thereby conflicting with the http connector of the server, it will fail to load. Change the http connector to 8081 and update your links accordingly.
Finally, make sure your encoder is pushing to the right port. If your http connector is set to 8081, then the encoder port should also do the same. For some reason, the encoder always connects through http so if the http connection protocol is disabled, your encoder will never connect. Hope this helps :)

BTW, it took me a few weeks to figure out what was going on but I finally solved my connection issues. The problem is that WMS web administration and the http connection protocol on the server conflict during installation. Not sure why the set-up program does this but it's a serious oversight on Microsoft's behalf.

Also, make sure you have all your ports open locally. If you're on a private network, everything is going to work within that network. If you have a firewall blocking certain ports, you'll have these types of connection problems.

I just found out that server beach will not open port 8080 so does this mean that they close all media ports I have my test site up and running but it draws from my home server just fine
http://www.spiritbroadcasting.net but not server beach later tonight I am going to try 8081 but I bet the block that port also I have tried port 1357 to 1389 no luck

Hey mediaman, port 8080 works. I have the WMS admin utility working on it. I think you have configuration problems. I am able to do webcasts just fine on port 8081 and every other conneciton protocol.

Here's the problem:
mms://216.78.172.27:8081
Where's the publishing point? You have to create a *:push publishing point on the server and then point your encoder to it.
The encoder can create it automatically but I suggest you create it at the server and then let the encoder connect to it. For instance, if you set up the publishing point "live" on your server, then your URL to connect players would look something like this:
mms://216.78.172.27/live
in your encoder the URL you would use would be:
http://216.78.172.27:8081/live
That would connect everything. Try again and report back.

I have tried everything I can not play any radio station in media player on my server this tell me that they must be blocking it I think I have tried every port
what would the push address look like?
or what would I put in the address bar in the wizard for push
the problem is that the server can't connect to my encoder plus media server is set to broadcast on 8080 they shut that port down the address you see if from my home server see if you can get a push from my server
my home server is http://216.78.172.27:10
you can put that address in any media player and it will work
I changed port

You connect the encoder to the server, not visa versa. I'm not sure how to set up a *:pull publishing point, but you should be setting up a *:push publishing point. Like this:
encoder "http://yourserver.com:8080/live" -> Server
Link on webpage would be
mms://yourserver.com/live (note, no port neede)
Now the encoder pushes the stream to the server and the player pulls from the server. If you are trying to get the server to pull from your encoder, your ISP might be blocking http ports because ISP do this to prevent people from setting up webservers. Server Beach didn't, and doesn't block my port 8080, I doubt they are doing it to you.
Follow the steps at th wizard to set up a live *:push publishing point or use your encoder with the same port your http connector is set at to push and create a stream but uncheck the "Delete publishig point automatically" so it stays on the server.
BTW, I just tried http://216.78.172.27:10/ in my media player and it didn't play anything.
try this link, it's on server beach and works just fine:
http://tracks-online.com:8081/unyc-wm/lola2003-fm.wma
This is coming from an on demand publishing point but it could just as well come from a live or *:push publishing point. The mms equivelent would be:
mms://tracks-online.com/unyc-wm/lola2003-fm.wma
Notice I didn't have to specify a port because the mms connector is set to default at my server. In the http I did specify a port because the connector is set to 8081 so as not to confilt with the web administration from the WMS web admin site set up on IIS. The default is port 80 on the http connector but that wouldn't work because your IIS has it's default websites set to 80. You should edit the properties and change to 8081 on the http connetion protcol plugin at the server and THEN create a *:push pulishing point and then connect the server to it.

Make sure all connection protocols are enabled. That would be:
control protocol - port
rstp - defalut
mms - defalut
http - 8081
this is what you should be seeing:
server setting (http://undergroundnyc.com/wms.jpg)
ecoder setting (http://undergroundnyc.com/wms2.jpg)

Well I figured it out they denied the media streaming in the layer setup in the router slick you can play on demand stuff but you can not stream live or draw from an encoder slick End Of Line
you can check out http://www.spiritbroadcasting.net I am doing it there will be alkinds of strange music playing as I am only testing Thank for all your help on my problem your A good man Nestor
