View Full Version : Still Illegal?

Ok, small rant, small question, etc.

So, I'm trying to get the SQL Manager Tools on my server.

1st) I was told, I can download the SQL2000 Evaluation version from Microsoft and only install the tools, they won't expire, and I won't need the service.

That's where This fun screenshot comes from. (http://images.zenenet.com/servernes.jpg)

So, no dice there.

2nd) I have a legal personal license for SQL Server 2000, so I made images and tried to upload them (on my 56K...yeah, no where slow :P).

No dice there.

3rd) I will admit, I downloaded BitTorrent and found an 'illegal' copy, and tried to download it. I call it legal because I was going to use my license.

However, no dice there, transfer refused to start.

I'm going to put in a ticket to Server Beach to fix the MSI Windows Installer as stated in 1st).

Anyone have any other ideas or would be willing to help out?

This may sound dumb... but add or delete more files until you change how many free GB of space there are. Why? because 52 is divisible by 4. 52 divided by 4 is 13 evenly. It's worth a shot... btw... "gotta love microsoft" =) Note that this pertains to the SPs, but I wouldn't be surprised if the installation is also flawed if it's a SQL 2000 SP1 added when shipped media.

BUG: Error Message: "There is not enough space on drive" Occurs When You Extract SQL Server 2000 Downloads

The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions) SP1
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions) SP2
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions) SP3
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions) SP3a

This article was previously published under Q301913

SYMPTOMS
When you try to extract SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) (Sql2ksp1.exe), Service Pack 2 (SP2) (Sql2ksp2.exe), Service Pack 3 (Sql2ksp3.exe), Service Pack 3a (Sql2kasp3.exe) or some SQL Server 2000 downloads, if the free disk space on your computer is a multiple of 4-gigabytes (GB), you might receive the following error message:

Error:
There is not enough space on drive C:\ to extract this package. Please free up 109.41 MB and click Retry.

WORKAROUND
Add or delete files so that the free disk space is less than 12-GB, or greater than 13-GB.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the tool used to package SQL Server service packs and downloads.
~~~~~
btw... notice it says you have 52.4GB free and it says to free 439MB, i bet if you deleted say 200 megabytes so you have 52.6GB free, then the error message of 439MB will probably change, maybe to 600 or 400.
VxJasonxV,
I have had this same problem with MS SQL. I pulled my hair out trying to do different things to "free up the space".
Before resording to My SQL, I found an article on Microsoft Support Web Site explains about this "bug" and a solution to fix it.
If you are still having this problem let me know and I will see if I can locate that article for you.
Cheers to Microsoft!
Chris
