Apparently SPEWS is blacklisting the entire Internet to get people to stop using their list. This means anyone who is getting rejection complaints on mail sent from their ServerBeach server should not complain to ServerBeach.

I think this requires a sticky, and perhaps a night of celebration :) I've been wondering why people have been complaining about mail rejections even after SPEWS supposedly marked the entries as not listed.

That roar you hear in the background is abuse administrators around the world rejoicing :D

Well, I am never happy to see a site/business go out - but I should never say never!

This was posted in the web hosting forum at www.ThreadsDev.com

Thought I'd pass it along, as alot of people (I know CPanel for sure) use Spam Assassin.

Because Spam Assassin connects to remote blacklists (including SPEWS) to check the mail... it's aparently been bouncing legitimate mail.

Acoring to slashdot, Spam Assassin will be removing SPEWS from their config in the next release. http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/27/0214238&mode=nocomment&tid=111&tid=126

Until then, you might want to disable the remote black lists check in the Spam assassin config file.

On most servers it's in /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf

Add this:

skip_rbl_checks 1

Doesn't seem to me that spews is down.. at least through outblaze.com

I just got a new server with serverbeach and any mail sent to any of the mail.com domains are being blocked.

The lookup for my new server at SB:
http://spamblock.outblaze.com/66.139.77.89

Another server of mine at Dialtone:
http://spamblock.outblaze.com/64.239.82.7

Why is this happening? What can I do?

Thanks,
-=nathan

The topic of SPEWS has been pretty much beaten to death here. We at ServerBeach have a zero-tolerance policy towards spam and we take care of spammers as we find them. At this time (and probably forever) SPEWS is a completely useless method for blacklisting e-mail. Anyone not familiar with the SPEWS fiasco should search the forum for SPEWS. As of now, I think any further posts on SPEWS would be useless and irrelevant. This being said, I will probably start deleting future SPEWS posts (unless the status of SPEWS changes).
