View Full Version : Using Mail Enable
I just set up my server and would like to get the email addresses going.
I understand that all windows servers come with mail enable. But i can't seem to find it.
What must I do in order to start setting up email addresses for my domain?
Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers

Only those servers with the Ensim and Plesk control panels come preconfigured with Mail Enable. To configure mail accounts in those, you would just use the respective control panel. If your server didn't come with a control panel or uses Helm, you will have to install Mail Enable yourself. You can do so by downloading the standard version from www.mailenable.com and running the setup program.
Thanks Kyle,
I hope that isn't as intimidating a task as it seems.
Cheers Mate.
Turned out to be really simple.
Now, is it true that I cannot use the default SMTP server in IIS? If this is the case, what route should I go to send mail using asp.net? Since doesn't that use the default smtp server?

You can still use the default SMTP server in IIS but you need to change the port which it is using since mailenable will now be using the default smtp port 25.

I just posted (http://forums.serverbeach.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4280) about hMail Server, a free mail server that is more feature rich than mail enable, in case anyone in interested.
Your control panel software won't support it out of the box, which is definitely a downside, but if you can live with that, it kicks MailEnable's ass. If you can extend your control panel using a scripting language (I believe you can with Helm, which is what I have, but don't use), then it would be relatively trivial to add support for this email server.
