hey everyone,
i have a windows 2000 server and have been hosting several sites for a couple months now. I had a few clients from before i got my SB server who were with a local web host that supplied them with SQL server. however for me to access the database i have to install SQL enterprise manager on a machine with a static IP address (so they can punch a hole in their firewallfor me to get in).

the problem is that i have the CD for SQL server 2000 and want to install the client tools on my computer but the x86 folder is liek 250 MB and is not the easiest thing to upload to my server via FTP. isnt there another way to install software from a cd to our server?

i use a windows XP machine and remote desktop to connect to my server and there is an option in remote desktop to give the server access to my local drives but it does nto seem to work.

any tips or advice here woudl be great!

Thanks!!

The best way to do it would be to create an ISO of the disk, upload the ISO to your server, then use Daemon Tools to mount the ISO as a virtual CD drive to install it.

...or you could mail your CD to ServerBeach, open a support ticket, and have them install it for you.

thanks for the quick reply... i do have some questions though. 1) does SB charge me if i send them the cd and ask them to install? if so, how much?

2) how do i create an ISO... is it smaller than if i just upload the files?

3) what are daemon tools and how do i access and use them? - sorry, i'm kind of a newbie with this.

thanks!!

Microsoft's Web Matrix from www.asp.net can be used instead of Enterprise Manager. See tutorials at www.asp.net

1) An ISO is a CD image. Put your CD into your burner and open your CD burning software. You should be able to make an ISO (or BIN) from there.

2) Daemon Tools is available here (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/portal/portal.php)

i ended up zipping the install files from the SQL cd and then uploading the zip file... it took a while but it did work.
