problem with new kernel

does anybody compiled a 2.6 kernel ??
if yes how ?
when i reboot my server with the 2.6.9 kernel the network driver 8139too don't load.

i get this error in my boot.log

ifup: QM_MODULES: Function not implemented
ifup: 8139too device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization

what are the QM_MODULES ??

i have the 8139too compiles as a module.

is that right ?

can anybody help please ?
