EMail & Bandwidth

Can somebody explain me how sending and receiving emails affect bandwidth of my dedicated server?

Bandwidth is simply data transfered to or from your server. It doesn't matter what protocol is used, smtp, pop3, http, etc; it's all bits of data flowing over the wire, and the sum of all that data transfered counts against the bandwidth allocated to your server.
