I've found that when either or both are enabled and I make the least little change to the server my Application Pools, all of them, are guaranteed to crash. For that reason I've turned off compression.

Has anyone else had problems using dynamic and static compression in IIS6?

I have enabled it without issue.

Did you remember to create a WSE for compression and enable it?

That is a fantastic link. I already spotted two things I was doing wrong -- lack of a WSE was one of them. I'm going to test this on my development server so I can use Ghost to save my sorry butt when I screw something up. If all goes well I'll go live with it. One of my sites in particular could really benefit from the static compression as all of his thousands of pages are static html pages and his site gets several thousand unique visitors every day.
