This new forum is going to take a long time to get used to. I've been writing forum software since the early 1980's and this thing is, at least to me totally non-intuitive. Plus it's ugly as heck.

I'm sorry the forums got hacked but why can't we have the old forum back so long as it includes the latest security patches?

Also, how come all of us forum members got an e-mail announcing the hack? How did that happen?

Do you have any idea who did the hacking?

EDIT: I changed my preferences to be in invisible mode and yet the software still shows my name at the bottom of the page as being online. If this is how the software is going to behave please delete my forum account. Thank you.

Even the latest security update for the older version is a full release behind the active development branch of vBulletin. There are also a lot of improvments in vBulletin3. You are probably showing up on the user list because you will not be invisible to yourself.

You can find more details about the "hack" here: ServerBeach forum downtime 2005-03-18 (http://forums.serverbeach.com/showthread.php?t=4723).

On VB you can see yourself no matter what. Just a heads up. This software is very very powerful and there is so much that can be done with it. I am an IPB guy but VB is probably a leg ahead of them. There is just more mods for IPB then VB

It's been a week or so now and I'm finding I do like the new forum software after all.

I have just two issues with the software. Maybe it's something knightfoo can do something about.

1) I dislike the line between the body of a message and the signature. How about removing the line and put the signature in a smaller font or perhaps a slightly different color?

2) A quick way to get at the list of smiles would be nice. Right now it seems I have to scroll to the bottom of a sometimes very long page to get at the Smiles link. I use Fx and the BBC ode extension but most of the smiles in BBC ode don't seem to work in this forum.

Comments? Suggestions? Flames? They're all welcome! :)
