First off, I'd like to say that my SB servers DO NOT have a virus.

Anyways, I work at my local school board in Information Technology, Information Services, Information Services Field Services (or whatever they feel like calling us today), and at 3:30 I had the honor of starting to call 116 schools (71 of which I actually called, the others my co-worker called) to tell them to turn off their computers until further notice.

We currently have a virus running circles around our network. I'm wondering if anyone's heard of any major outbreak or anything, but I'll probably find out what the virus is tomorrow.

Wierd thing is that all workstations have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise installed on them, and we have (really annoying) McAfee e1000 network virus scanners at the edge of our network, by the Cisco Pix and N2H2 Bess filter. I would have thought something there should have picked it up.... at the very least the workstations.

Kinda interesting talking to Hydro One Telecom when they called to report that the interface on a school router was turned off. I told them to expect a lot of those alarms (they monitor our 100mbps fiber WAN between all schools and our board office, and our 20mbps fiber internet connection, and call our Helpdesk whenever the link between sites goes down) so that they didn't need to call us. They seemed sympathetic that we were dealing with a virus.

At least this will mostly make up for the sick day I took on Friday!

Tomorrow, it's back to the same old, telling people:
