Welp, having been on my 100Mb port for a few days, I finally had a chance to do some performance tweaking of my TCP stack.

I've been able to push my connection to around 70Mb/s sustained (for several minutes) and I'm bursting slightly higher then that.

To put it in perspective, 70Mb/s is approximately 8.75MB/s. That's an MP3 every second, or a full DVD in under 10 minutes.

Oh, and for the record, these tests were performed over the net to a data center in another city. Downloads from Verisign's gTLD root (FTP server) are even faster, but that's cheating since they're in the same facility and only 2ms away.

So yeah, I like the Peer1 network :)

how can we test our server to see if we are full duplex to the net and back at 100meg bit?

Check the network card's link status. If it's 100Mb it's full duplex. If it's 10Mb it could be either, but if you're paying for 100Mb it's a moot point whether it's 10Mb full duplex or 10Mb half duplex.
