Hi,

I would appreciate any help with updating nameservers with registrar.

My server is server1.snajsoft.com
From the Ensim control panel I guess my name server is server1.snajsoft.com . (SB support, please correct me if I am wrong).
I updated my registrar with the above nameserver with the IP provided by SB.
I tried to provide the above nameserver as my primary nameserver, however the registrar did not allow me to update as I have to provide the secondary and tertiary nameserver name.

I do not know what is my secondary and tertiary name server. PLease let me know. I would appreciate if SB could atleast put up documentation or faq for these kind of basic questions as these informations are critical.

Any help is appreciated.

The problem is in the same fashion you created your own primary
name server, you also must create your own secondary and tertiary
servers. The tertiary server is not necessary.

Do you plan on running your own DNS? If not then you should decide
where you are going to server DNS for your domain and they will
be your primary and secondary servers.

This is a very popular subject. Searching through the forum for
'nameserver' or 'secondary nameserver' will probably have all the
answers you need.

I hope you didn't tell your registrar your name server is server1.snajsoft.com. That would be wrong. Your name server should be NS1.SNAJSOFT.COM and NS2.SNJSOFT.COM.

Once you have created these you must also set up your DNS on your server appropriately. There are several posts in this forum that explain how.

Ron - As you suggested, should I create a secondary namely server2.snajsoft.com, with the same data. I actually do not have any plans to run my own DNS. Is it required with SB or can I have an alternative?

dhigbee - Frankly speaking I did tell my registrar the my server name is server1.snajsoft.com.

1. So should I create seperate NS1.SNAJSOFT.COM and NS2.SNAJSOFT.COM pointing to the ip address provided by SB?

2. Should I set up the DNS through Ensim or through the Windows itself?

Please help, as I do not have much knowledge in the DNS area and the topics in the forum is quite confusing. I am amateur in the area of dedicated hosting. As the SB has promised, I thought this would be good place to start with. Previously I used my hosts nameservers, who actually had 4, which were provided to the registrar. But now I am really upset.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for the replies

It is not required that you run your own DNS servers. You have the option of using ServerBeach's.

1. So should I create seperate NS1.SNAJSOFT.COM and NS2.SNAJSOFT.COM pointing to the ip address provided by SB?

You need another IP address. You cannot register two nameservers to the same IP address.

2. Should I set up the DNS through Ensim or through the Windows itself?

If you're using ServerBeach DNS, then neither.

QT_ - As per your recommendation I should not do anything to the DNS settings on the server if I opt for SB's nameserver. Correct me if I am wrong.

If that is the case, can i provide to my registrar my nameservers as NS1.GEODNS.NET and NS2.GEODNS.NET . If this is not right please advice the correct ones.

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Shaheen
