Hi,

I am currently running 3 windows 2003 servers (with HELM), and need to setup a persistent vpn between them. I have managed to setup one of the remote helm servers as a vpn server using RRAS and can connect via the helm control server, but this is via a dial up connection which drops if admin logs out. I know it is possible to setup a persistent connection using RRAS, but have no idea how to do it.

All servers have only 1 nic installed - no surprise.

Alternatively, I have had a quick look at openvpn, which looks very promising ( and will allow me to continue to use the windows firewall).

If any one has any info on setting up openvpn (is it as easy as it seems or are there other factors to take into consideration), OR have some info on persistent connection using RRAS I would be very grateful as I need to setup a VPN as these servers are being moved to the new DC in San Antonio, but unfortunately not all together, and the required ports will not be open).

(if only HELM 4 was out yet!)

(I will shortly be testing openvpn on a test server later today, as this looks the best option on paper).

Many thanks,

CD

Got VPN working a treat using PPTP via RRAS.

I will post a how-to if anyone is interested (QT's example is ok for remote administration, but not if you wish to setup a persistent connection).
