Well, I'm just about out of ideas. Serverbeach support wasn't able to help and neither was a consultant. My download speeds are terrible.
Try downloading
http://www.allprosoftware.com/demos/apsls60d.exe
For example. I'm getting about 50kps.
Using FTP://www.allprosoftware.com/demos/apsls60d.exe
Is a bit better but still around 90kps.
I've tested my internet connection from here and it's fine- I can get over 300kps from other web sites.
My server CPU load is virtually nothing and my network bandwidth never goes above about 2% usage.
HELP!!!!

I just tried your HTTP version and got about 100 KB/sec from IE and about 300 KB/sec from your FTP. Could be the route from your ISP to your box?
My results were:
HTTP: average 115kbps
FTP: average 370kbps
Using Firefox, XP Pro, DSL

Thanks guys. My performance is also now 'up' to those speeds. However, isn't 100k pretty awful? It's about 1/3 of the possible capability. I know http is not as efficient as ftp but 1/3???

I was just able to download that file at almost 2MByte/sec from my home connection (15mbit cable) over HTTP and FTP. Tried it several times, the average is about 1.9 MB/s.
This is the same level of speed I get from my server in the VA datacenter, so I think your speed issues are either gone, or caused by a router somewhere else.
HTTP Starts at 300k and drifts down to an average of 70k
FTP holds steady around 240k
Here is a trace route. I'm on a 15megabit fiber connection.

Thanks again! Very interesting. It looks like if you live in Virginia, it's fine, but something's clogging the works outside. Unfortunately, the trace route looks fine to me too. It's almost like something in the network is throttling bandwidth???

BTW, does anyone know which data center I'm in? I imagine it's Virginia based on the download results here... I'm 64.34.162.88

Yes, you're in the Virginia datacenter if your server's IP starts with 64.34.

Ender, you've been really helpful. Do you happen to have a file on your server that I could try downloading from here? That would help me identify if it's a network issue or something specific to my server... No big deal if you don't...
My server is in the new San Antonio DC but if you want to try an http DL here is a file you can test with.

Glad I could help :)
I've stuck up two files to test:
http://www.endersgame.net/16MB
ftp://ftp:foo@www.endersgame.net/16MB
The results I get from my home connection are:
Requesting http://www.endersgame.net/16MB

16777216 bytes retrieved in 00:07 (2.27 MB/s)

150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for 16MB (16777216 bytes).

Dang- it's fine. So much for the general network theory. Thanks for doing that.

Thanks- that's fine from here as well... What the heck is going on here???
My server is Windows 2003 with IIS 6.0 and using Visnetic firewall. Not sure if that matters or not.

Well, I've decided to just provision a new server in a different data center. With any luck either the box or data center won't have the same issue as the current one! I did some googling of this and found a few other people with almost identical issue with Windows 2003 server, but no one ever reported a resolution. Probably some registry value out of whack.

We were able to determine that this has something to do with MailEnable Pro's virtual directories. It doesn't make sense, but once we removed the directories, download speeds increased by 600%, but it was still not at full speed. We're proceeding to provision the second server.

I got 500kbs
That's because the domain is pointing at the new server, now. ;)
