Hello,

I just got a win2k3 Server. I Requested a second IP. I added the IP to the server in TCP/IP , then I created my NameServer and Pointed My ips, one to ns the other to ns2.

This is what I got:

ns.vipxo.com with Primary IP
ns2.vipxo.com with Secondary IP

Next I installed the DNS on my server, created both NameServer NS records, NS with primary IP and NS2 with Secondary IP,

Then created a Host(a) for NS with primary IP and a Host(a) for NS2 with secondary IP.

Then created the HOST(a) for WWW with primary IP and a Blank Host(a) with primary IP for http://vipxo.com to function without the www.

Then I created the IIS entry for the website. Stopping the default website, creating a new web with the primary IP and adding a HOST Header for virtual webs to function with one IP.

Then I opened an explorer inside the server and tested the domain http://www.vipxo.com and it works inside the server. But Outside It doesnt work.

So I Went to MyServerBeach DNS Tool and created VIPXO.COM and told it that it was a SLAVE with my primary IP.

Still Nothing...any Help on what I missed would be apreciated...

One more thing... on TCP/IP where it says Use the Following DNS Server Addresses... What Should go there? Both My IPS or SB IPS?

Thank You,

Daniel.

Your nameservers aren't responding to DNS queries or pings. It looks like your server is either heavily firewalled or down.

Hello,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I activated the win2k3 Firewall setting. That is TCP/IP Advanced TAB Internet Connection Firewall and then in settings I selected this services for users to access:

FTP Server, Internet MAIL SMTP and POP3, Remote Desktop, Secure Web Server, and Web Server.

You were Right...Thanks... I Deactivated the firewall and Its working now...

Now, how do I protect the server then? I tried BlackIce and it caused a serious error message. So I removed it.

Daniel.

The built-in firewall for Windows 2003 is sufficient if you configure it correctly. :)

Hello QT_,

I've been trying to configure the firewall for the last 3 hours and no luck...

On the Name or IP Address....I tried with my ip, with the server name, with the example there 192.168.0.12, the host name and when I turn it on it blocks the access...

I went to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;317530 to read more and :(

I checked all boxes in Services and ICMP

Any sample configuration would be apreciated.

Thank You,

Daniel.
