Has anyone had any issues after installing Windows 2003 SP2 ?

Since installing it last night, our server keeps going offline. Looking at the log files, it appears to be shutting down. I can reboot it using the rapid reboot system, but it only stays up for a max of about 20 minutes.

Not long enough to uninstall SP2, or do much other troubleshooting!

Are there any errors in the logs and if so what are they just before shutdown?

I've been using SP2 since it first came out without any problems.

No, nothing, it just says

"The previous system shutdown at 13:52:35 on 26/06/2007 was unexpected."

no other errors. the time of the shutdown does not appear to be when I rebooted it when using rapid reboot, but rather when it went offline / appeared to crash

Can we make this post sticky so everyone can follow along with SP2 issues? I am waiting to see what I can learn before applying SP2. Don't feel like being on the bleading edge on this one!!!

Any updates? I was considering it but my server is very stable right now and I hate to touch it.

I'm sorry to say we couldnt track down the issue, nor could SB.

SB also made several hardware checks in case it was a coincidence and a hardware failure had occurred at the same time as the installation of SP2. But to no avail, no hardware problem was found

The server just kept shutting down, with nothing in the logs, and no apparent pattern as to when it would go offline.

In the end we were forced to go for a complete new install of Windows and start from scratch, which was a nightmare. Serverbeach were extremely helpful and attentive throughout the whole issue and I am very grateful to their support for making it as easy as possible in the circumstances. They installed a new copy of Windows 2003 on a new harddrive, and installed the old drive as a secondary, so we were able to copy over data etc

Anyway , the conclusion of this longwinded post, is that SP2 appeared to cause us huge stability issues which were couldnt recover from, so I couldnt recommend anyone installs it, and I certainly wont be on any on our other servers!

Cheers

We've had it installed on our servers since it came out and have not had any problems.

Absolutely , as have a huge number of others, but in my case there was clearly an issue with something unfortunately, not something I'm prepared to risk again!
