Right now I have a Power 2600 server.

AMD Athlon 2600 Processor
2GB Memory
2 x 80 GB Hard Drive
2000 GB Bandwidth
Rapid Reboot FREE

Im running multiple gaming servers (5 to exact) and a apache server from this server and im finally starting to spike the CPU and cause lag on the gaming servers when people are accessing the mysql DB. Im thinking of upgrading to the Powerline 64 Dual Core-1

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Processor
1 GB DDR RAM
160 GB SATA Drive
2000 GB Bandwidth

Im not a big hardware guy so my question is, will the dual core make a difference in the CPU spikes? Can I assign certain processes to each core? Say the OS and apache to use one core and the gaming servers to use the other core? I guess my ultimate question is will I notice a hugh performance gain?

I tried running apache and mysql as a lower priority but it makes visiting my sites really slow.

Thank you in advance for the help and answers..

The dual-core CPU should give you more performance overall, especially since you're running multiple processes. You'll be getting a good bit over double the performance of your 2600. :) As for assigning processes, you can do that via Task Manager in Windows. Just click the processes tab, right click your desired process and choose "Select Affinity" and choose either CPU0 or CPU1.

Dual Core is definitly better but if I were you I'd consider a dual core with 2 gig's of ram not 1.
