Just out of curiosity.

Web Server 2008 limits me to no SQL Server express AFAIKR, and no Plesk
Datacenter edition just takes it out of my price range.

Having a Windows Server 2008 Standard edition with control panel support would be great addition to your value line.

I plan to do more research on the Web edition but I'm not holding up any hopes at the moment.

I also noticed that the Web Server version does not come with Windows Firewall as they expect the data centre to provide one

Thanks for any answers,

Jas

I've managed to find out I can install SQL Server express on Winows 2008 server Web edition by installing a hot fix to do this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950636

I'll install on a home machine to try it out with the different services I run on my current 2003 server at SB

This will teach me to read Microsoft Press books. I've got virtual machine now with Windows Web Server 2008 and it does have a firewall unlike what the book said. Shame Plesk isn't available though. Is there any reason for this? (Plesk website says it works on Windows 2008 Web Server)
