Got our new server this morning, to find it configured with the latest relese version of WHM/CPanel-- 8.2.0-RELEASE_28.

What's the rationale for using a release version rather than stable? Some users may want to use that tree, but they could choose that themselves.

I've been having a variety of problems all morning, most of which I believe are related to this build. I can't access easyapache, for example, which I really need to do immediately in order to reconfigure PHP. I am also reading about various mail problems that I am not anxious to deal with. Manual upgrade just hangs, so I can't even reinstall it.

Advice anyone?

The "stable" and "release" versions are recommended for production systems, while the "edge" release are recommended for testing only. You can find this at http://layer2.cpanel.net. We have been installing 8.2 for several weeks now and I have not heard of any widespread problems like you are describing.

I was just surprised. Although RELEASE verisons are tested more than EDGE, I would have thought that STABLE tree would be the default choice. I count 9 updates to this RELEASE since it came out last week . I guess I would have preferred the option to choose, since it's a snap to switch your preferences to RELEASE upgrades and not such a snap to downgrade to STABLE.

That said, I submitted a ticket for our other issues.
