My server is dying... what can I do to relieve the stress? I'm not really sure what this message is about?
Has anyone else had this problem?
IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
This is cPanel stats runner on [MYSERVER].com!
While processing the log files for user [MYUSER], the cpu has been
maxed out for more then a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of
this email is
2:14pm up 30 days, 6:47, 0 users, load average: 1.21, 2.04, 2.31
You should check the server to see why the load is so high and take
steps to lower the load. If you want stats to continue to run even with a high load; Edit
/var/cpanel/cpanel.config and change extracpus to a number larger then 0 (run
/usr/local/cpanel/startup afterwards to pickup the changes).
have you tried checking to see which processes are eating up all you're resources?
from a terminal run "ps -aux" and pay attention to which processes are hogging all the CPU and memory.
either kill them off, or restart the services, or reboot the server to clean things up.

well.. that's where the curse of the clueless newbie comes in. I am useless when it comes to ssh, and I can't find a guide anywhere on the Internet that is helpful for someone with my lack of ssh skills.
I can build web sites all day long, but the root access controls are an issue for me.

PuTTy is a good SSH client and the download and tutorials can be found here:

Our Cpanel server was doing that one day back in August - I try to check these stats from time to time every day just to make sure the baby is happy ( OK, I'm compulsive )
Anyhow, because I was checking , it hadn't had a chance to continue this overload so long that the server had to email us about it; and I caught it early.
After looking at everything closely, I still could not determine exactly what was creating the overload - but then - I'm no server guru either and this is our first CPanel server. However, I did a graceful reboot and the problem went away. Soooooo..... whatever it was, it broke the cycle and it's been fine ever since.
In reading the Cpanel forum since that time, I've noticed this remedy as one that is recommended. :D
Gosh, I love this CPanel program!
:p
