Hello

I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that if you are going to webcast copywritted material, you no longer need to get licensees from ASCAP and BMI. New laws have cleared the way for small webcasters to broadcast copywritted material.

Here is a link to the FAQ. I would suggest reading everything if you are going to webcast.

http://www.riaa.com/issues/licensing/webcasting_faq.asp

Now thier is still a fee, but it is resonable, and easy to pay.

Dont go the the ASCAP and BMI websites, it looks like they are dragging there feet to update there webpages to the current laws. I wouldnt be suprised if it was on purpose to squeez some extra coin out of webcasters.

Good Luck and Have Fun

Hmmmm.....

So, it's $20 to file the Initial Notice with the Copyright Office, and then you need to pay the $0.0007 per "recording" (with a minimum of $500... so that's about 714,000 songs) for a non-commercial, correct? With the stipulation that you won't play more than 3 songs from the same album over a certain period and some other crack-headed restrictions.

Now that's pretty interesting. Thanks for the link. :D

Yea, I consult for a student radio station, and we are going to start webcasting very soon.
