View Full Version : Subdomains with CPanel / GeoDNS.net
I'm still waiting on DNS to replicate, but am I understanding correctly that if my local box isn't a DNS server and/or I do not have a replicated trust to the geoDNS.net boxes that I have to manually setup the CNAME/A?
This is going to mean customers creating subdomains in CPANEL are going to have to let me know?
Ug...

You only nede 4 records for the domain, really: *.domain.tld and domain.tld, plus MX records for those 2.
If they are set up, then it's up to Apache and your SMTPd how it chooses to handle incoming requests to sub.domain.tld or sub.sub.sub.sub.domain.tld.
Tino,
So... should I add *.mydomain.com and the appropriate MX entries to resolve all subdomains? Can this be done through the serverbeach tool?
Reason I ask is that I've recently created a subdomain and it's obviously not working even after I thought I understood what you were trying to tell me.
Sorry for my thick-head...

I am having this same problem..
I am not running my own dns (using geodns.net), and subdomains I create are not working after days. I have redhat9 and cpanel/whm. I would like for customers to be able to setup subdomains without my intervention.

If you are using GeoDNS then your customers will not be able to create subdomains without you adding records to GeoDNS. The only exception would be if you are using GeoDNS as slave servers. What domain are you having a problem with?

carltonandadams.com
the subdomains are genealogy.carltonandadams.com and tnhomeloan.carltonandadams.com
what I have done:
I used dns tool @ myserverbeach to add *.carltonandadams.com pointing to carltonandadams.com
used cpanel to create subdomains listed above.

You should probably get rid of the CNAME and just point *.carltonandadams.com to the IP address of your server. Right now if I go to one of those, I get redirected to http://carltonandadams.com/subdomain .. is this not what you want?

that is exactly what I want it to do, but:
when I go to either of them, ie jumps to google, and mozilla throws a "...cant be found" alert

I changed the *.carltonandadams.com to point to IP and still nothing. How long should I have to wait?

I'm having subdomain problems as well. I can create a subdomain on any of my accounts except for one. (the one I want to create one on of course) lol
Trouble ticket is a few days old.

Do you mean to literally put an "*" + "domain.com" (put and asterisk in the the entry. Or are you saying that for each subdomain I add to my SB DNS tool needs to be pointed at the IP address? I'm having this problem as well. Over 24 hours and two of the 4 sub domains are not resolving. :)
If I only need 4 entries in my SB DNS can you show me exactly what all 4 of them look like. This could save me a lot of time in the future and is there anything I need to do to my boxes?
Thanks again

I am also having the same problems with subdomains. I have added my tld (118112.com) in both WHM and MyServerBeach and am using the geodns nameservers. When I create subdomains (test.118112.com for example) in WHM, nothing happens - i.e. the browser cannot see the subdomain although can see the tld.
With my old host (who I left due to poor customer service) when I created subdomains, they immediately became available.
Any help would be appreciated.
