Hi all,

I use a Win2k box from SB. I just acquired a new IP for an Ecommerce site and pointed the domain towards the IP. I changed the IP in IIS and changed target of the domain in the SB DNS tool.

I did this about 4 am 9/29/03.........by 4pm a colleague in NY said the name was already resolving to the IP, but 12 hours later....no dice...I couldnt see the change but he could. I assumed this was normal.

Its over 24 hours later and my domain is now resolving back to the old IP. But nothing has been changed since the initial setup. Although I did reset IIS last night to be sure the webserver was restarted.

Old IP 66.135.33.220
New IP 66.135.36.168
bellamodastudios.com

Am I just impatient and worrying for nothing....or should the IP and domain be working by now.

Thanks for any help you can give me..?

Looking up bellamodastudios.com, it looks like it's pointing to your new IP to me:

bellamodastudios.com A 66.135.36.168

Thanks very for the quick reply...

I guess everything should be fine over the next day or so...and Im just being impatient. So it does take a full 48 hours...I was under the impression that it would be quicker since the IPs are on the same computer and network...

Btw, I am pinging the IP and the name is still resolving to the old IP... what other methods can I use to find this info in the future other than PING? This seems to be an inefficient method.

Thanks

It is possible that your local DNS server is caching the wrong information for some reason. You might want to check which DNS servers you are using .. if they are from your ISP, they may be having issues.

There are some tools at dnsstuff.com which may make it easier to troubleshoot problems like this.

Actually I was just Pinging the site again from the Server that hosts the IPs to see if that was the case, and it reads the same info as I see here, so Im totally confused at this point...

But I'll check out this link, Im sure it will prove to be helpful.

Thanks again for the info and the quick reply

It could just be your ISP. When I made any DNS changes for domain names, it took about 3 to 7 days to see the change through my old ISP, while the rest of the world saw it in 4 to 48 hours.

:) Thats what I am hoping is happening.

Right now I am playing with the A Record tools on that site you referred me to DNStools.com and I am getting conflicting information.....Sometimes a request returns the old IP and sometimes the new one....Funny stuff actually...

Ive watched many transfers very closely and most will totally propagate between 24 and 48 hours.....This is puzzling. Its making me second guess what I did when setting up the IP but Ive frantically checked in all areas (the Registrars records, the SB DNS tool, and My Server), to ensure the records are appropriately listed with no mispells or anything dumb like that...

PS - Im happy to see that there are people dedicated to the posts here on these forums, very helpful I must say... :)

Thx again
