View Full Version : Your host info in my signature image.
Someone pm'd me regarding their host info showing up in my
signature image and how they were concerned with it being
a security risk.
If anyone else is concerned, you should realize that when YOU are
viewing the image, only YOU can see your host info. Just like when
I view it, I see my info.
The only info that is stored is the hit count. This image is testing a
few different things. It is an experiment written in PHP that generates
an image using the GD library, writing a jpeg image on the fly from
a template, adding the HTTP header info to it.
So, sorry if anyone thought it was arrogant or of a security risk to you.
Any questions regarding this can be posted here.

WARNING!!! Your computer is transmitting an IP address which will allow hackers to gain access to your computer. Protect yourself with XYZ firewall! At only $2500, isn't a little stack of cash worth peace of mind??

For those of you that are paranoid and/or don't know about knightfoo's silliness sometimes or if you're just visiting this forum:
Do NOT take the above post seriously (hence the :snicker::)).

I'm sure many people thought the same as you, or had similar thoughts. It's good that Ron posted about his signature image so it's clear to anyone who views it in the future knows that it's just an innocent image. :)
it'll probably save him from having to read a lot of PM's in the future as well. ;)

I find this new form of sig image spreading across the internet, annoying at best.
It slows page load IMHO.

Micheal, the author of PhotoPost wrote a similar thing a while ago- and it was becoming so popular, he finally made a page where you can create your own signature image.
It echos back all that IP and host stuff, then allows it to pull from a random library of quotes.

I'm doing mine as a strain/stability test with some click scripts
that I have been working on. Sorry if it's annoying, It just is a
really good way to test because of the traffic. Thanks for putting
up with it.
And...I can assure you that this sig image was written from the ground
up...No borrowed scripts.

That's cool.
No didn't assume that you had used any other software. It's just cool how popular a sig like that can be.
